Mike Butcher

Tributes

From Jim W

Mike Butcher died suddenly on Friday 5th January (2018). He had been ill with lung/breathing problems for some time but seemed no worse when my wife and I visited him and his wife Rosa on Wednesday the 3rd.
Mike will be known to many of you as he was an apprentice with Marconi and then an electrician with Field Services. He then joined Installation Design. He left Marconi in the mid 1980s to work for Nortel.
Mike was 78 years old.
I first met Mike in Sweden in 1964 on Fur Hat. We both have Swedish wives and Mike and I and our families have been friends ever since. We are going to miss him, he was always good company and very positive even through his recent illness.

From Don H

I well remember Mike Butcher from our initial encounter on the first Fur Hat site; a bustling, energetic, good-natured individual who I bumped into several times later. If memory serves me right, Rosa was one of the very personable Swedish ladies who ran the catering side of the Marconi domestic site on SOC1.

From Alan M

I was sorry to hear about Mike Butcher who I remember as a real expert at repairing printed circuit boards and setting up tracker balls to run true. He was always very helpful and generous with his considerable skills.

From Bryn M

I worked with Mike on many sites, we had lots of laughs and the odd beverage together putting the world to rights. A genuine guy with a great outlook on lifeā€¦

From Tony D

I am saddened to read about the passing of Mike Butcher. I first met Mike in Sweden on the Fur Hat Proect. I found him very jovial, happy and very helpful.
On leaving Field Services he joined me in the Installation Design Group where he proved to be a great addition to the group. Rest In Peace Mike.
