Vic's Life

Collected by Colin Drake:

Around 1948 – with National Service in operation - whilst at Marconi, Vic volunteered for service in The Royal Navy.
Upon his demob and return to industry, he worked for Services Dept. (Radar) in the Drawing Office for a few years
He was then promoted, and transferred to Building 46 at New Street, working with Harry Lightfoot – Assistant Supervisor of Drawing Offices - in an administrative capacity.

In the early 1960’s the various Radar departments were centralised with a move to Baddow, Vic moved also, working with Geoff Edwards & Mick Healey on civil radar tasks.
He then moved into administration, becoming Drawing Office Manager of Radar with responsibility for several groups and a large team of designers and draughtsmen. Responsibility was to Roy Simons the Technical Director. He continued in that role for some 20 years.

In the early 1980’s, the Radar Company was divisionalised into Airspace Control and Naval disciplines. At that time, Vic left the Design Office to become Works Quality Manager, a post he held until his retirement.
