Tributes

From Owen Hawkes
I have been notified by Eric Beech that Fred Wilde, one time Manager of Field Services has passed away. We are not sure of his age, but he must be at least in his late 80s.
The last time I met Fred was at a Type 85 / Type 40 reunion in Leicester in 2014.

From Barry Pettican
Sorry to hear this news,
I mostly remember Fred from the 1980’s when together with Mike Bartlett, we were running multiple sites for GWS 25 commissioning and trials (Bushy, various ships and Stoughton). We were constantly having to carefully manage the right numbers and types of expertise. Often difficult to forecast accurately. Fred and Mike were always helpful and understanding, and they had pressures from other projects at the time too.

From Barry France
Very sad. I first met Fred when he was the AEI man at Staxton Wold, Scarborough. I met him several times later once AEI was incorporated into the GEC empire and again when he became manager of Field Services. He was always a very decent and helpful guy and a true Northerner, albeit from the wrong side of the Pennines.
