From the Essex Chronicle via Don H
"Tony was a keen sportsman, most notably enjoying much table tennis success at County and National level over 3 decades. Retired he frequently golfed at Bunsay Golf Club and sailed the Blackwater Estuary. He was an avid traveller and skier."
I suspect the name was familiar to me either via the MASC or the Rosebery Road table tennis club back in the 60s.
For the record he died on February 1 aged 87. No funeral details but "a springtime celebration of his life ... will be held in Maldon."

From Derrick P
I remember Tony Condon as a manager in the early 1980s at the Marconi Westway site (where the First Bus repair depot is now located). I was looking after the site communication systems which in those days consisted of telex with 5 unit tape, fax machines and the small remote slave telephone equipment located in an attic. Tony was a departmental manager reporting to Geoff Sturgeon who was the overall site manager of Marconi Spares and Repairs. At that time I also had a part time evening job at the Marconi Club and one specific incident comes to mind. Tony Condon was on the squash court when he had a suspected heart attack and I called the ambulance. He eventually returned to work at Westway after many months of recovery and rest.

From Ian Freshwater

Tony was my first manager when I joined Marconi’s in 1963. The Spares and Repairs department was at that time at New Street, then in June 1964 we moved to Waterhouse Lane. We stayed there until Marconi Radar was set up as a separate company about 1972. The Spares and Repairs division was then split into two with Geoff Sturgeon becoming Manager of Spares and Repairs for Marconi Communications with Tony Condon under him as Manager for Pricing, Stock Control, Purchasing and Stores. I went with the Radar half under Stan Church.
