The death of E.W. (Ted) Jeffery occurred in Aylesbury in December 2020.

Ted joined as an engineering apprentice during WW2, travelling from Clacton to Broomfield and New Street daily.  His entire adult career was spent on Radar equipments in both design and design management appointments. Most of that time was with H.N.C. Ellis-Robinson (E-R) with whom a close bond was formed.

Ted’s ultimate appointment was as Design Office Manager - Airspace Control Division.

Following retirement, he maintained a social relationship with many of his earlier colleagues and cohorts and attended M.V.A. and Design Office reunions.

So sorry to hear of the passing of another of our warriors; a reminder of a certain inevitability. Whilst I never worked directly with him, I recall Ted as approachable, helpful and competent.

When I worked at Baddow in the 1970s Ted Jeffrey was in charge of the Engineering Drawing Office. Most of the people, as I recall, were housed in a single storey weather boarded hut under Baddow Tower. We all reported in to E-R and Bruce Neale.  I worked in a Portakabin quite close by, and almost opposite. In later years due to the adoption of CAD, company drawing offices were re named Design Offices. Various re-organisations meant they moved between premises and divisions. I don’t know exactly when Ted retired but certainly there was an Airspace Control Division in existence in the 1980’s at Writtle Road.

Very sorry to hear about Ted Jeffery.

Though I do not believe I ever worked directly with him, he was part of the Marconi Radar establishment for most of my 42 years there and was always around.
