It is with great regret that I have to inform all of Mike's friends and former colleagues of his sudden death just before Christmas. He suffered a heart attack on the 19th Dec and died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

The funeral will take place at Chelmsford Crematorium, 3:30 pm on Friday the 28th of January.

So sad to read this. I worked with Mike at Great Baddow in the early 70s and then, after I transferred to Field Services, our paths would cross on numerous occasions. Mike was always a very calm gentleman and someone I was always pleased to meet at the Orange Tree on my far too infrequent trips back to the U.K. Please convey my sincere condolences to his family. Another good man bites the dust!

Mike was a very good friend with my Dad Harry W who also worked for Radar. Mike was such a wonderful man with a beautiful family. Mike was very clever man who could turn his hand to anything and had the most beautiful garden.

As well as working at Radar, Mike was also one time treasurer of 1st Galleywood Scout Group, a role he held for many years. Rest in Peace Mike.

I never heard anyone have a bad word to say about Mike. I always enjoyed working with him and his dry sense of humour. He was reliable, trustworthy, straight-talking and annoyingly, almost always right! I first met him in Dharan when we were billeted in together in the lavish “Marconi Villa”. The diary doesn’t record that the facilities were so Spartan we had to share a sink to wash our socks in – happy days! RIP Mike.

It was very bad news about Mike Martin. Somebody, I think Andy Redman, referring to Mike, used the expression, Gentleman. That is a perfect description of Mike. I knew him from the early days, but lost track when Naval Division was created. I doubt if he changed and still gave advice which was most definitely worth listening to. And his estimates were thought out and accurate. A pity the rest of us were not so good!

I'm so sorry to hear of the death of Mike. He was always a cheerful colleague, and always willing to give me an engineering estimate for the latest sales proposal in response to my K239, however unlikely that it would come to anything! Sincere condolences to his family.

I think the comments here about Mike show how much he was respected; always thoughtful, helpful and with such good grace. I particular remember him for his lovely sense of humour and as an excellent drinking companion. Rest in peace Mike.

I did not work with him directly but he was always around and a very good friend both at work and socially.
