I have just received a phone call from Penny, Eric's wife to say he passed away at home on Monday night (6/3/23).  The initial diagnosis of pneumonia hid a cancer on his lung and when discovered given only a few days, he was allowed to go home where he only had 8 hours, passing at 4.00 am.  Penny will keep me informed of the arrangements.

Update 22/03/2023: Eric's funeral will be held on the 18th April at 1.30pm in the South Chapel of the Chelmsford Crematorium, followed by the wake at Pontlands Park.

If you intend to attend the wake please let Penny know.

Such sad news & though we suspected all was not well it has come as a real shock.

Though I only knew him through the weekly MOGS Zoom sessions, I counted him as a friend.

Pint in hand, he was always ready to chuckle at our daft banter.

A talented model engineer who gave me some very good advice on mechanical matters.

Sorry to hear that Eric has passed. Remember him in Saudi Arabia; I believe at Taif site, as he told me a couple of years ago.

May I please join those offering sympathy at the news. Like Philip, my only "contact" was via Norman's Zoom sessions, where his good nature and humour shone.

Sad news. I have really warm memories of Eric in Saudi at Taif. He looked after the generator for the domestic camp which was severely underloaded because it was sized to run air conditioning, which was rarely, if ever, needed at Taif. I will always remember the call going up for Eric when the generator died in the middle of a film and he had to go out in all weathers to get the recalcitrant genset going.

He was a really  nice guy, with a ready smile and a wealth of tales and anecdotes to draw on. He will be greatly missed at our Tuesday virtual get togethers.

I've only just logged on so a real shock to see all the messages - I too only knew him through the Tuesday Zooms but he felt as real a Marconi friend as any other.

So sorry to hear that Eric had passed away. Like Phil I only really became to know Eric on our weekly Zoom MOGS get together. He was always cheerful and clearly an enthusiastic model maker. We will miss him.

RIP Eric.  It was a pleasure to have known you, albeit virtually.

So sorry to read this. I also only knew Eric from Norman’s weekly Zoom meetings. I know Penny though as I spent two periods in the Field Services Head Office in the early 70’s as an apprentice. First with Bill Jones, mostly doing handbook amendments for nine weeks and then assisting Chief Inspector Don Reed for nine weeks and Penny was there at that time.

Please relay my deepest condolences to Penny. Being a cancer survivor myself I know more about this malaise than most and it has taken way too many Marconi alumni over the years.

Very sad news to read of the passing of Eric. As with others in the Tuesday Zoom meeting,  that is where I got to know Eric. He was always very enthusiastic about his model making and his liking for a good beer. His cheerful and smiling face will be greatly missed on our weekly Zoom  meetings. Sincere condolences to his wife and family.

RIP Eric.
