From John K
It has been reported that Dave Walters has passed away recently following a long illness.
Many will know Dave from E-Block. He worked quite a bit with Bob Taylor on the systems side of some of our Radar projects. I found Dave a very helpful and supportive colleague, a pleasure to work with.
From Malcolm M
Surprised to hear that Dave has passed on. Always considered him to be one of the younger personnel. Worked with him on JORN in 1995 when we were all in the JORN Sub System Prototype Team with Jim Waddell, Nigel Thackray, Nick Richards and myself. Run by Alan Batchelor and then taken over by Kevin Bishop.
Dave, Nigel and Alan with Paul Snook were building a RX sub system that we termed JARRAH, which was eventually scrapped. At this time Kevin Bishop took over; I was involved in the design of the Prototype and Production RX Bunkers with GEC Marconi Communications. Eventually involved with Dave and Nigel in the regression testing of the RX building VME Bins software in 1998. Later in 1999 Dave and myself were working for Technical Services on Year 2000 Compliance for S600 Systems. Dave was, in my experience, a highly competent Systems Engineer who was software orientated, and had worked with Bob Taylor for some years. His wife worked as a secretary in Field Services Head Office in the early 1980s, but moved onto Systems Engineering , where she met Dave. When Dave and his family were on holiday in Gloucestershire in 1998, we met them for a lovely day’s walk along the Thames and Severn Canal at Sapperton, and had a picnic lunch at the Daneway Public House.
RIP Dave
