Mr Ian Whitlock, who joined Marconi from Rediffusion in 1949,  and retired in the 1980's, died on 15th June 2023 aged 98.

Ian Whitlock was one of those people who I often thought about but rarely heard from - I'm impressed that he achieved such a great age. He was a quiet, clever and unassuming man; I worked for him for a while on UKADGE. I recall his notorious habit of forgetting names. We shared a forename, so he usually got mine right - but I'll never forget meeting him in a corridor of E-Block WRW when he was walking with another "Ian" - ("The Laird") Ian Donaldson. There was that pregnant pause before an embarrassed chorus of "Hullo Ian", "Hullo Ian", "Hullo Ian", "Hullo Ian"………… 

I last saw him in 2007 - he called at my house in France en route between the Vendée and his family in SE France. So nice of him to remember me - RIP Ian.
