Re my days with the Tepigen group, when I got the job of Divisional Manager, the Tepigen group had no contracts and were spending PV monies like water. However they were bidding for the GR5 simulator contract, but lost it to Singer, and since there were no other prospects in the pipeline I was forced to close them down. I then became Divisional Manager of the Naval systems group which, following the John Nott moratorium which cancelled the 909 update and the new naval surveillance radar STIR and our survival contract on the Spearfish heavyweight torpedo subcontracted from Wembley ( which I ran) we were left mainly with gun control and degaussing and hopes for Marksman. I only lasted about 4 years ( and hated the job - 200 people and all their problems ), when the MD (Paul Robinson) told me I wasn't a business man, I agreed with him and told him I was an engineer and proud of it! I got the boot, but not out the door and became the New Parks Chief Engineer( which I loved!) for the next 13 years, until I took the general Marconi offer of early retirement in 1998. Thus I know pretty well all the people at New Parks and had considerable involvement in all of the New parks business - 909 - Stir - Manpack - a little on 800 series - Marksman- Degaussing - tank turret control, Electric car transmission, and a lot more I have forgotten about! I have contact with a few of the 'old geezers, and some of us meet up at the Plough in Ratby on the last Thursday of each month to reminisce! I also have contact with a guy who was compiling a history of New Parks complete with audio recordings of interviews.. I currently write patent disclosures for subsea oil and gas production systems for an ex- Marconi company - now GE in Nailsea Bristol as a nice little number part time job from home!
